    Not able to boot under Windows, or under the OS after using Dell Update Application

    Some Inspiron 15-5559 may face a "NO BOOT DEVICE FOUND, PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM" error after the system Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) was updated utilizing the Dell Update application.

    After the BIOS update was completed and the system rebooted, the system no longer recognized the boot device (Hard drive) of the system.


it may occur that the BIOS update changed the boot mode settings from Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) to Legacy Boot mode, rendering the boot sequence inoperative.

Resetting the BIOS to the UEFI Boot mode and enabling the Secure Boot option resolved the issue and the system booted into Windows normally.

Steps to change the Boot Mode:
  • Boot to the BIOS System Setup by pressing F2 at the Dell Splash Screen (Alternately you can press the F12 key and then select Enter BIOS from the menu)
  • Under the General Section, Click Boot Sequence, then click the UEFI Boot List Option in the right pane of the BIOS.
  • Then Click the Secure Boot Section and ensure that the Secure Boot Enable option is selected.
  • Click the Apply button then the Exit button and the system should boot into Windows normally.
